Church Government Advisory Group

Church Government Advisory Group is appointed by Meeting for Sufferings on the nomination of Central Nominations Committee, and normally consists of 6 Friends. The group’s purpose is to advise Meeting for Sufferings and the Recording Clerk on church government matters, and to keep the text of Quaker faith & practice up to date in light of changes made by Yearly Meeting, or as a result of external changes such as new legislation.

The group meets as required, generally 4-5 times per year, and is serviced by the Recording Clerk, who acts as its secretary.

When new text is proposed for Quaker faith & practice (normally at the request of Yearly Meeting or Meeting for Sufferings), the group forward a prepared draft to Meeting for Sufferings for comment before it is submitted to Yearly Meeting.

Here are the group’s current Terms of Reference.
